About Team

Matthew G. Tarwo

The Matthew Tarwo Helping Hand Foundation is established in honor of the late Matthew G. Tarwo, a beloved father, husband, brother, uncle and friend. He was a man of great integrity and goodwill. Growing up in Kakata, Liberia; we called him Pa, woke every morning and went to work, never missing a day.  As hard as he worked, he on many days left home without leaving funds for food, which meant we were not sure of having a meal.  He worked at a latex processing plant where traders gave him tip so someone would go to his job in the afternoon to collect money from his tip for food.  What was amazing was that Pa never let this dim his spirit that we could tell, he was always joyous.  His home was open to all even as he struggled to make ends meet.

Pa was a casualty of the Liberian Civil War that brought much destruction to the country.  The war damaged Liberia’s infrastructures including medical facilities and schools.  When Pa died in 1993, the war had cause him to uproot his family and move to the interior where he took ill, suffered without medical attention and until his death.

There is no doubt that he would be thrilled about the mission of this foundation because he found joy and satisfaction in helping others.
