
Gweh Gaye Tarwo, Co-chair. He helps in shaping the foundation’s strategies, and advocates on its behalf. Gweh overseas the financial health of the foundation. He is a Liberian economist with over 10 years of professional experience in the public and private sectors. He holds a Master of Arts degree in Economic Policy Management from the Makerere University in Uganda and a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from the University of Liberia. He spent his early childhood in Cote d’Ivoire where he sought refuge and pursued most of his secondary education at the St. Jean’s Liberian Catholic School.
He currently serves as Country Economist at the World Bank Liberia Country Office. Prior to joining the World Bank, he served as Assistant Director for Macroeconomic Forecasting at the Department of Research, Policy and Planning at the Central Bank of Liberia. He also served at the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning (MFDP) in various capacities – Officer-in-Charge of Economic Policy Division, Director for Macroeconomic and Financial Policy, and Director for Revenue Forecasting.
He has represented Liberia at several global forums including the Annual and Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Meetings of the Association of African Central Banks (AACB) and ECOWAS Intergovernmental Committee of Experts on various subjects in various capacities. He has also contributed to the formulation of several public policies and plans including the Government’s Economic Stabilization and Recovery Plan (ESRP) in response to the Ebola crisis and is a proud winner of the MFDP 2015 Employee of the Year Award.
He is inspired by the enormous socioeconomic challenges faced in Africa. His research interests are in the areas of poverty alleviation, macroeconomic and fiscal management, and financial sector development. He is an educator and strong proponent of the culture of learning and growth and enjoys reading, playing chess, scrabble, and soccer during leisure.
